D.D. -2024

Rob Burch and I went to this June 22nd 2024 to attempt the Diabolic Double again for the third time. The Diabolic Double is a function of the Garrett County Grand Fondo. They offer 5 bike races on this day and they are: 126 miles with 16,500 feet of climbing, 106 miles with 12,500 miles of climbing, 65 miles with 8,000 feet of climbing and a 44 mile and 25 mile option . The race is so well managed and it is extremely hilly. This year there was a heat wave of about 100 with no cloud cover so we Rob Buerch and I choose to do the “Savage Century” with 12,500 feet of climbing. In addition a round of applause goes out to Rob for raising money “Catch a Lift Fund” that helps make a difference in Veterans lives. It was so hot and no cloud cover and at 75 ,miles I started cramping to the max then go headaches and almost threw up. So Rob and I both quit at about 85 miles but 85 miles with about 10,000 feet of climbing is awesome. We stayed at the Wisp resort which is awesome and they have a workout gym , pool, great dinning and is close to the start of the race. Wisp is a great Maryland Ski resort and summer resort for hiking and biking and boating as Wisp is on a beautiful Lake – Deep Creek Lake. We dined at Dutch’s at Silver Tree and it was fantastic with a setting over looking Deep Creek Lake. I do not have many photos this year but here they are and this is a great race/ride as there is little traffic, the route pushes you to your limits and the resort and dinning options are awesome.
