Hanover Century
We went up this time to bike in the “Labor Day Century” provided The Hanover Cyclers. The Club sponsors rides year-round like the Wednesday morning breakfast rides, ice cream rides, night rides, Christmas light rides, weekend jaunts as well as the “Horse Farm Tour” and “Labor Day Century – the one we did” and all are well supported with routes between 10 and 100 miles – and at the end we had a great meal with hand cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and so much more
Rides frequently travel thru horse farm country and the world famous Hanover Shoe Farms, the Battlefields or Apple Orchards of Gettysburg. The Club holds monthly meetings as well as many social events and a monthly newsletter is emailed to all members with the Club’s schedule of events. The Club also promotes and contributes to giving back to the community programs such as Adopt-A-Highway, York County Heritage Rail Trail, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League, and HAPBI.
This year 2024: I, Alex and Arden did the Labor Day Century which was awesome held on September 2 and they offered: 25, 50, 62, and 100 mile versions with rest stopes and a full SAG support and we enjoyed great food and beverage after our finish. We wanted to do the century but had not ridden that much for multiple reasons so we did the 62 mile ride and we rode to the border of Gettysburg and my map is included in the blog below with photos from start to finish and what a great ride. This year we started at the Irishtown Fire Station Company 934 on Irishtown Road, New Oxford PA. 17350. Ok photos below
We biked across the farmland of Pennsylvania and it was beautiful with almost no traffic below
We stopped at the rest stops below and biked past some historical places below as well
At the end we had great food and I highly recommend Hanover Cyclers and thank you all for a great time
Some other photos below
We stayed at the Antrium in Taneytowon and it was awesome and photos below
The Antrim below
The Antrim is on the National Register of historical Places going back to 1844 and an old friend Richard Mollett and his wife Dorothy own it
The Antrim was just wonderful, beautiful and so elegant. Our bedrooms rooms were to die for with fireplaces and private balcony
The rooms in the mansion were so elegant below
and the dinning was scrumptious and this photo was taken of a proir year that we stayed there
The grounds were beautiful with tennis courts pool and beautiful gardens and statues
So I highly recommend Hanover Cyclers and doing the Labor Day Century which offers: 25, 50,62 and 100 mile versions and their info is below
The Hanover Cyclers was formed in 1974 to promote bicycling as a form of family recreation and to promote bicycle safety. The Club advocates the enactment of laws pertaining to the interests of bicyclists, recognition of the bicycle as a vehicle used for pleasure, health and transportation, and organizes friendly bicycle rides for cyclists of all abilities. The Club sponsors rides year-round. Each ride is led by a friendly, knowledgeable member of the Club. Wednesday morning breakfast rides, ice cream rides, night rides, Christmas light rides, weekend jaunts, rides in surrounding areas of Hanover, Gettysburg, East Berlin in PA and Carroll and Frederick Counties in Maryland.
In addition, the Club sponsors two signature rides; the Horse Farm Tour in May and the Labor Day Century in September and this is what I just did. Both are well supported with routes between 10 and 100 miles. Hanover Cyclers also works with surrounding cycling clubs to assist them in leading rides in the Hanover area.
The Hanover Cyclers ride primarily in Adams and York Counties where the terrain varies from gently rolling to steep hills. Rides frequently travel thru horse farm country and the world famous Hanover Shoe Farms, the Battlefields or Apple Orchards of Gettysburg. The Club holds monthly meetings as well as an Ice Cream Social, Summer picnic, Fall and Winter hikes, and a Christmas Banquet and for the Labor Day Century Ride we had a great meal at the end with hand cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and so much more. A monthly newsletter a weekly ride list is emailed to all members with the Club’s schedule of events and rides for the coming months). The Club also promotes and contributes to giving back to the community programs such as Adopt-A-Highway, York County Heritage Rail Trail, Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League, and HAPBI.
